About GregsBudget

GregsBudget is a decades long project started back in the 1980's. Here is the story from Greg Taylor, developer of GregsBudget and owner of Bright Sky Software LLC ...

Back in the mid-80's when I was just starting out in my career I realized that I had to budget my money. Making about $600 a month as a part-time computer programmer I had to be careful not to spend too much. Using a spiral notebook I kept a running balance and projected my cash flow several months into the future. Back then I didn't have a spreadsheet program but my paper system served me well.

Later I started using Microsoft Excel to do the same thing. The spreadsheet made it easy to project my budget several years into the future. It was a huge improvment over the paper system but it wasn't perfect.

Sometimes I wanted to see what would happen if I changed my 401k contribution rate, or paid off my car or made extra payments on the house. Excel made this possible, but it took time. Sometimes hours. Then there was the process of figuring out where the money was going. How much was I spending on various things? To figure this out I created another spreadsheet to enter purchases from my credit card statements. Spending was broken up by month and category. It allowed me to see where I might be spending too much, but this took time too.

Eventually I started playing around with the idea of creating a program that would make all these tasks easy. That program is GregsBudget. Now with GregsBudget I can see what happens if I change something - in an instant! I can see my financial situation as far into the future as I want. I can import CSV files from the credit card companies or banks and automatically catergorize the transactions into a spending report. It also acts as my reminder when it's time to pay a bill, renew a subscription, get my car inspected or even put up the bird feeder.

Now you can get GregsBudget from the Microsoft Store for a one time low price with no subscription fees, in-app purchases, ads, or tracking. And updates are free!
